Note-Taking Skills of University Students With and Without Learning DisabilitiesCharles A. Hughes is associate professor of special education at Penn State. Sharon K. Suritsky is currently assistant professor of special education at Penn State, where she received her PhD. Her research interests include the development and testing of note-taking interventions for adolescents and young adults with learning disabilities. Address: Charles A. The notes of 30 university students with learning disabilities (LD) and 30 nondisabled university students were compared on the number of cued and noncued information units recorded and the number and type of abbreviations used. Results showed that the university students with LD performed significantly lower on all variables. Implications for practitioners are provided and future research discussed.
