Social Competence and Problem Behavior of Adolescent Girls With Learning DisabilitiesDavid R. Ritter, EdD, took his graduate training at Penn State University. He is currently a privately practicing licensed school and child psychologist in the Greater Burlington, Vermont, area, and is also clinical director of the Northeastern Family Institute-Vermont. Address: David R. Ritter, EdD, NFI, 431 Pine St., The Maltex Building, Burlington, VT 05401. Estimates of social competence and problem behavior were obtained using the Child Behavior Checklist (Achenbach & Edelbrock, 1983) for a sample of 51 adolescent girls with learning disabilities. Results identified poor social competence and elevated problem behaviors, in comparison to a normative group of nonhandicapped adolescents. Implications for both diagnosis and research are addressed.
