Ann Dwyer is an assistant professor in the Department of Special Education, University of Maine, Farmington. She received her PhD from Purdue University. Examiners were directed to score three essays differing in quality and were told that the essays were written by LD or normal students. Half of the examiners received a brief introduction to the scoring procedures; the other half received more intensive training. Labeling effects were successfully attenuated by providing additional training.
