Clinical Syndromes Among the Learning Disabled

Nancy Mather, PhD

Nancy Mather, PhD, LDsCAN Project 4750 North Oracle, Suite 108 Tucson, AZ 85705

As a field matures, it fine tunes its knowledge. The earliest literature in learning disabilities consistently described such youngsters in terms of short attention span, perceptual problems, memory disorders and, of course, the resultant unacceptable behavior. The field is growing up and my Syracuse colleague, Larry Lewandowski, has created from the literature clinical—etiological subtype categories that complement our traditional empirical classifications. The reader should find good food for thought here.—Burton Blatt, EdD, Associate Editor.
