A Closer Look at Three Measures of English MorphologyRonald L. Weber is associate professor in the School of Education at Augusta College in Augusta, Georgia. He received his PhD degree in reading from the University of South Carolina. Requests for reprints should be addressed to him at the School of Education, Augusta College, 2500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30910. Three measures of morphology are individually explained and compared. These include the Berry-Talbott Comprehension of Grammar, the Grammatic Closure subtest of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities, and the Grammatic Completion subtest of the Test of Language Development. A discussion of each test's reliability, scoring procedures, format, and types of scores is presented. An item analysis of the specific morphological forms tested by each instrument also is provided. A major limitation, scoring guideline for speakers of nonstandard English, is discussed.
